Deadbolt Mystery Society December 2022 box has a season appropriate theme (minus the murderous plot). Sheriff King and others find themselves stuck at the Big Elk Lodge during heavy snowfall. Snow accumulates, the roads are unpassable, and no one can get in or out. The unlucky guests settle in to wait out the storm. Seems innocent enough until one of the guests is found dead with a knife in their chest. Thankfully Sheriff King is there to investigate.

Deadbolt Mystery Society is a monthly box subscription. Each month you will receive a new mystery that can be solved in its entirety. Depending on your preference, you can play single or multi player; however, there is a recommended age of 13+ due to the subject matter.

What is inside the box?

This is the contents of the bag. All items are clues or are used to help solve a puzzle.

You will always receive a “Start Here” or what I like to call a useful information sheet. If you get stuck on a clue, this sheet provides a website with helpful hints to get you going again.

There is always a “Beginning Brief” as well. The brief gives the player(s) some background on the case at hand and helps begin the game.

These postcards and booklet provide written information, clues, and puzzles to solve, as well as QR codes.

QR codes are generally used to enter your answer once you have solved a portion of the mystery. If your suspicions are correct, the QR code will open additional information to help advance the game. However, QR codes have also been used to let you listen to a voice message, music, watch a movie, tour an office, etc.

Additional envelops containing information and clues. Once you advance far enough into the mystery, you will be instructed to open the envelope.

The solution is only opened at the very end. Once you know “who did it”, you can open this envelope and read a statement from the perpetrator.

Deadbolt Mystery Society December 2022 Review

Ok…..so…..a little information about me. For many years my primary job was to help solve real crimes. I have helped solve murders, sexual assaults, robberies, etc. While Deadbolt Mystery Society plots are fiction, the games help me utilize the puzzle solving and clue following drive that I naturally have.

“Snowbound” is fun mystery to solve. December's story line is less time consuming than others I have played. That is nice for this time of year since there is so many other time consuming things going on. The shorter story line did not take away from unexpected plot twists. Just when I thought I had completely solved the mystery, I found there was more to the story.

I chose to complete this box by myself. Only one hint was needed. Due to the condensed story line and the ease of solving this mystery, I would highly recommend “Snowbound” to a beginner. The plot is interesting and the twists are exciting enough to keep a seasoned mystery solver interested as well.
